Vietnam, JICA Develop Rice in Mozambique

Cập nhật: 04/01/2011 09:10

(VEN) - The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (representing Vietnam) recently signed an agreement to launch a three-party project on agricultural development in Africa.

Within the framework of the project, six Vietnamese agricultural experts will go to work in Mozambique transferring rice farming techniques to double wet rice productivity/production in Nante in Maganja da Costa District, Zambezia Province, Mozambique.
Vietnam and Japan are experienced in growing rice and have long cooperation ties with Africa. For this reason, the parties believe that the project will be successful and become a good model of three-sided cooperation between Asia and Africa. In addition, JICA wants to strengthen the cooperation with Vietnam through this project and more in other African countries.
The project is part of the Coalition for African Rice Development (CARD) initiated by JICA in May 2008 to help African countries double rice production from 11 million tonnes at this time to 28 million tonnes in 2018./.
